When I was just starting out, there was one drill I played over and over at my local club.

It was simple. No tricks, no spin wizardry. Just working through the balls with the right angles. Back then, I didn’t fully get why it mattered so much. I just knew it felt right when everything lined up.

Looking back now, I realize this one drill quietly taught me one of the most important skills in pool: how to play natural shape. Not forcing the cue ball, not getting into trouble that didn’t need to happen. Just making the game easier by thinking one and even two steps ahead.

In today’s video, I’m breaking that drill down. You’ll see how small decisions — like the exact angle on the very first shot — can either set you up beautifully or make the whole rack a grind. And how just a bit of unwanted spin can snowball into tough recovery shots down the line.

Even though I’ve outgrown the drill, the lesson is still relevant. Especially if you're trying to move from mechanical shot-making to actual cue ball control. And if you're working on angle play, you’ll also get a ton from it.

Cheers,
Sharivari
