One of the biggest mistakes players make - without even realizing it - is forcing the cue ball to do something unnatural.

You see it all the time: unnecessary spin, too much power, or trying to force an angle that just isn’t there. But what if, instead of working against the cue ball, you started working with it?

Next time you’re at the table, ask yourself:

  • Where does the cue ball naturally want to go after contact?
  • Can I adjust my shot to use that natural path instead of forcing position?
  • Is there an easier way to control speed and angle without adding extra spin?

Making this small shift in your thought process will immediately make your cue ball control more reliable. Instead of hoping for position, you’ll start predicting and trusting the cue ball’s movement.

Next time you line up a shot, ask yourself: Am I making this harder than it needs to be? This was exactly the problem one of my students faced during a coaching session. He was struggling with cue ball control on a simple shot, but after a few key adjustments, everything clicked.
