This Drill Has 10,000 Ways to Challenge You
A Drill That Keeps You Thinking

A lot of drills either get boring quickly or feel too rigid. This one does a good job staying right in between. It gives you a clear idea of what to do, but still forces you to think through every shot instead of just going through the motions.

The concept is simple. You clear the balls in groups of two and keep the 8-ball for last. Once you choose a pair, you have to finish it before moving on. That alone already changes how you approach the table, because you can’t just take the easiest ball at the moment. You have to think a bit ahead and make sure you stay in line for the second ball of the pair.

What makes the drill interesting is how quickly things can change. One slightly wrong angle, a bit too much or too little speed, and the next position becomes awkward. From there, the run can get tricky fast. That’s exactly the point, because it teaches you to stay in control instead of just reacting to whatever happens.

At the same time, it never really feels repetitive. With multiple groups on the table, there are thousands of different ways to play it, so every run is a bit different. You end up solving a new problem each time, even though the setup stays the same.

It’s a simple structure, but it targets the part of the game most players struggle with: keeping the cue ball under control and making good decisions from shot to shot.
